Experience Spain. Understand Spain

For students who want their exchange semester to go beyond regular university courses, UF3 offers academic opportunities specifically connected with Spanish culture, language, history and institutions.

The programme is designed to help international students deepen their understanding of Spain while complementing their exchange studies with courses taught in English.

The current academic offer includes:

Spanish Language for Beginners (6 ECTS)

This course is designed for international students who are beginning to learn Spanish language or have very limited previous knowledge. It focuses on practical communication in real-life situations that students are likely to encounter during their stay in Spain.

The main objective is to give students the confidence to use Spanish from the first day, both inside and outside the classroom.

Students will learn to communicate in Spanish about themselves, their university life, accommodation, food, shopping, transportation, leisure activities, health, travel and everyday situations.

The course combines grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and communication with cultural content about Spain and Andalusia.

Spanish Culture (6 ECTS)

This course offers international students an introduction to contemporary Spanish culture and society. Rather than studying Spanish culture exclusively from a theoretical perspective, students will explore Spain through its history, traditions, food, music, social relationships, celebrations, architecture, popular culture and everyday life.

Seville itself will function as an extension of the classroom. Lectures and discussions will be complemented by guided walks, visits, cultural activities and direct observation of everyday life in the city.

The Spanish Political System: Institutions and Contemporary Politics (6 ECTS)

This course offers a comprehensive and accessible introduction to the way Spain is governed. Starting from the historical process that led from dictatorship to democracy, its founding principles and the constitutional bodies that shape political life.

The course further explores Spanish politics in action: the electoral system, political parties and the evolution of the party system, the role of civil society and the media, and Spain’s place within the European Union and the wider world.

Theoretical sessions are complemented by case studies, analysis of current political events, simulations and institutional activities.

History of Spain in Europe, America and the World (6 ECTS)

This course provides an overview of Spanish history from the perspective of its contribution to European and American civilization.

It explores the diverse Hispanic influences that have shaped the development of universal concepts, particularly international law. Furthermore, the course examines Spain’s political, social, and economic impact on the historical development of the American continent.
